Hurdles, Not Girdles

Ever since I saw Danny Zuko in sweatpants, I knew track guys were hot. He didn’t need his T-Birds leather jacket to be cool.

Can’t you sense the confidence exuding off these fit and flexible track and field guys?

55Jackrabbit072Before the Information Age, young folks enjoyed testing the limits of their bodies, pushing their muscles, striving for fitness goals, and enjoying the sun and wind on their skin. Even if they were sore afterward.

Nowadays, not so much. There are screens to be stared at, video games to be played, and processed, enriched grub void of nutrients to be consumed. Plus, sometimes outside is uncomfortable. Forget that. Inside is always 72 degrees.

Come on, morbidly obese kids, you can do it! Get up off of that couch. If this 74-year-old New Zealand man can do it, so can you! He did this AFTER he kicked cancer’s butt. So kick your own fat butt and get moving.

Otherwise, you’ll have a lifetime of physical and emotional hurdles ahead of you. I know you lack the energy to seize the day, but for the love of all that is holy, put the Hot Cheetos and Takis down. Toss them in the trash! Say hello to fitness and good-bye to Husky jeans!

  1. I am all for moving around once in a while, Kerbey, but your photos reminds me of a quote I read in Sports Illustrated one time by, well, who the hell knows. It is a good one, though. “The only thing more boring than track is field.” Unless, of course, you are Olivia, John or the 74-year-old New Zealand guy who can run rings around the world.

  2. Phys Ed used to be mandatory in high school and your Freshman year in college. That’s how I discovered that soccer can be fun to play. It just sucks to watch.

    1. I have tried several times to watch soccer, and it drives me nuts. I’m like, kick it in already! Quit kicking it back 50 feet to push it forward 10. I don’t get it.

  3. Kerbey,

Loved the post and anytime I can see Olivid Newton John from Grease, I am always appreciative (by the way, where’s the photo of her in the black leather?).

To my surprise, I have kept my New Years resolutions this year, and have been working out every day and while on a very strict diet and….feel like a million dollars.

Thanks you for the “inspiring” post and for the photo of Olivia…I am ready for some summer lovin’ and gonna have me a blast.

    1. Props to you on your lyric recall. I did sift through several Olivia .jpgs and .gifs of her, putting out her cigarette in leather pants. She was a beauty. And props to you for keeping your resolution. It is a daily struggle for me. Yesterday I must have done only four minutes of squats, and now my legs feel like noodles. Barely made it to put the trash out this morning LOL. Keep on feeling like a million dollars, Jeb!
