In a couple of days, bloggers everywhere will be posting about the fourth anniversary of Michael Jackson’s passing. Many less will mention Farrah Fawcett, who passed on the same day. Farrah, who changed the spelling of her first name from Ferrah, was a hair and fashion icon to girls of the 1970s, despite the fact that she only spent one season on Charlie’s Angels. Although her legacy does not impact the world in the way that Jackson’s does, I wanted to give her a shout out.
We can see these images in our minds: Farrah with the healthy glow, Farrah on the skateboard, Farrah in the infamous Mexican blanket swimsuit poster, too cliche for me to post. Long before The Burning Bed, the ups and downs with long-time lover Ryan O’ Neal, and the crazy stint on Letterman–the same year she turned 50 and posed in Playboy–she was a stunner. And presumably sane.

Farrah and Broadway Joe. Classic! Beautiful post. There wasn’t a straight man in the USA that did not have a crush on that lady. And as they grew older they realized what a talent she was.

Farrah always reminded me of my sister. Beautiful, powerful, and inundated with personal tragedy. Fortunately for me I still have my sister but yes I agree we lost Farrah way to early. My personal favorite powerful performances is “Small Sacrifices” and “The burning bed” I still remember my mom crying her eyes when she first saw “The burning bed” because she too suffered at the hands of an abusive man in her life.

A fine tribute to a much loved woman, now sadly missed, who I join you in remembering. Hard to believe that it is four years already. Great video clip of her in fine form – had not seen that before, as I doubt it was shown in the UK. I always recall Farrah in The Six Million Dollar Man, but may have first seen her in an episode of McCloud, as that was also shown here, and my Dad and I watched it every week. I also liked her in the 1980 film Saturn 3 alongside Kirk Douglas, as I am a big sci-fi fan, and enjoyed it despite the critics negative reviews. Her role in that film didn’t really make use of her acting potential that came out in later work, but that wasn’t her fault.

I am so glad you made this post nice and informative about Farrah. I think she brought humor and light into people’s lives. She would even act a little klutz and this made me as a girl smile. I never felt she had a negative or unkind word. Thanks for this older post, Kerbey.
