I thought Arizona was a desert, but I hear it’s flooding right now.

When I think of Arizona, I don’t think of lush, verdant fields and crops, much less apple trees. But that’s only because they never showed that on episodes of Alice, set in Phoenix in the 1970s.

This, however, is just as I imagine New Mexico would be, assuming both the feather-spangled Indian/Native American and conquistador are ethereal ghosts of the pasts.

Hello, Figs

Finally! Five days left of July, and our fig tree finally decided–after two months of harboring little green pods–to turn them purple and heavy with sweetness. So pluck them I did and off they went into a bowl in the kitchen. It’s been 100 degrees here every day this week, and thick with humidity, so you can imagine what a nice shade tree this provides for two lethargic dogs. And the bonus is–I got to the figs before the ants did!

Myrtle Memories

Myrtle Beach Day I 025As some of you may have noticed, I’ve been MIA for a week now. My family and I took some time to visit Myrtle Beach (our first trip to the East Coast) and our first flight together.

We stuffed ourselves on insanely high-priced meals (burgers run about $17), visited Broadway on the Beach, as well as The Boardwalk, frolicked in the waves, and took a spin on the Sky Wheel.
