Even eight inch celery stalks shooting out of her salad can’t distract Shirley from making googly eyes at Donald. William, however, seems to be admiring the luster of his Cheviot tweed.
I think Shirley is just a gold digger. She dated Jake until she learned all the tales of his affluence were made up. She made a play on Donald who had a rich Daddy but old Donnie only had eyes for Shirley. Eventually she married William and lived happily ever after as the only married couple that sold insurance in all of Bloomington.
Donald actually preferred the Servile Restaurant, Indianapolis’ most obsequious restaurant.

Ooh, what fun words! Do the waiters say, “As you wish, my Lord?” And then bow and cower away? Deeelightful? Where are my scones, peasants?
