I had a pair of brown leather knee highs that laced up. They did take a while to put on or take off. Those bright studs on those boots may be eyelets. A zipper would be faster but not nearly as cool.
He’s probably too exhausted to smile after lacing those boots up. One of my brothers had a similar pair back in the 1970s that I used to covet for no reason I can remember.
