I think the one girl is smiling because her card says she can take off that hideous sweater and pass it to the girl on her left, and her friends are happy for her. The one with the frown is unhappy because, well she’s the girl on the left, and she just learned what is in store for her.
That was my first thought, too–about 40 years too early. We were talking about that just last night w/ a group of church ladies and one of the ladies saw 867-5309 on a screen and said, “Oh, is that a local #?” I asked, “Are you kidding me? That’s a song from abut ’82.” “Oh, I was only two then; never heard of it.” #$%@!!!
nooooooo! I was roller skating with my girls once and Oh, Mickey! came on and I screamed “Toni Basil!” and the other (much younger) moms looked at me like I was odd. Get with the program, people.
I had that 45 and would watch that video to learn her moves. Wasn’t it like a white background? Zero set. It must have cost $5 to rent the white room and wear some cheerleader outfits and make pyramids.
She was accustomed to being the (Alexander Graham) Belle of the Ball whenever she wore that sweater, Kerbey. The girl on the right, Geraldine the operator, is saying, hold on, I’ll find you your party.

You kids, This reminds me when my horse carriage passed the conservatory and I said, “Wow, that’s Bach…he can really tickle the ivories.”

If you’ve been around that long, you’re lucky not to have arthritis in your fingers while you type.

Did you call the number? I would love to find that sweater in a thrift store. Thinking it’s red with white writing. What do you think, Kerbey?

Definitely red and white. I would wear it. It’s like an invitation. She’s saying, “I’m accepting applications for a gentleman caller.”
