I don’t know what makes me more queasy – the cultural appropriation of “dressing up” as someone else’s culture or the combination of purples and oranges in that image.
I’m on the fence with that. I think you should be able to dress up like a geisha or a Native American without them feeling insulted, if you’re not mocking a culture. I wouldn’t be offended if someone dressed up like me. But purple and orange, yes.
Cherokee is a tourist town run by the Eastern Band — they still do these headdresses and sell other things like that, and they are quite proud to share their heritage and language.
