Here, the basketball coach explains why this year’s uniforms were shortened, rendering undergarments completely unnecessary, and thus, saving on material during the war effort.
Well, that’s my guess anyway. In addition, should there be an unexpected air raid, the satin reflects any light, enabling team members to lead others out of the building. Follow that sheen!
These two look ready for action. I guess I don’t pay much attention to basketball; I didn’t even realize players wore knee pads. I haven’t watched a game since I had that crush on John Stockton from the Utah Jazz nearly 20 years ago.
The cameraman took some risks to get this shot (or else he was Andre the Giant).
And for those players who weren’t destined to be seven feet tall, there was always room to improve their vertical. Case in point:

When I read the title of this post I really expected something different.

I know. I’m sorry. You can google Jayne Mansfield to balance it out.

Oh, Kerbey, taking us back to the days when men were shorter and shorts were really shorter.
I had to wear shorts like that when I was a kid in gym class. Making aghast noise back in Syracuse right now, and it DOES sound a lot like the noise a man might after pulling on shorts of that length and tightness.
Shorts lengthened by an eighth of an inch every year of my life, I do believe.
Now I can hardly find shorts that go above my knee.

Yes, the shorts length does seem to grow each year, doesn’t it? Now we’re living in a madras shorts time. I see men wearing madras shorts everywhere, and I like those. If we could just get men’s short sleeves to actually be short, and not hit their elbows, that would be nice.

I didn’t know I was wearing madras shorts, Kerbey, until Robin saw my picture playing golf on this post and commenting upon my style.

The sleeve thing is out of control. You are correct. Above the elbow, please and thank you.

I’ve seen your posts; I know you can rock some madras. You were hip and didn’t even know how hip! Last week, my husband and son learned “chambray.” How did they live not knowing that term? Next thing, they’ll say they don’t know what chartreuse is.

Please do, Kerbey: Chambray?
Chartreuse is a color, yellow-green. Yay. Got that one.

The easy answer is it looks like a denim shirt, but it’s actually lightweight fabric, like a button down at Old Navy that still looks nice enough to wear to church or business casual.

Whew. No wonder I don’t own one. I’m glad you did not go for the difficult answer out of the haberdashery textbook, Kerbey. Thanks.
