In the fall of 68 when I started IU I lived in a dorm and that dorm had a snack bar operated by an independent owner and staffed by students. You could get a cheese sandwich for 15 cents or a ham and cheese sandwich for 35 cents and both came with lettuce, tomato and mayo. They were really good sandwiches.

I guess it sounded informal enough for students. I can’t imagine paying a quarter for a sandwich and getting change back!
