I have heard that phrase for years. Is bated the same as holding? To bate your breath is to hold your breath? I don’t know. I do know that I miss those little juke boxes.
You’re right about the weird two handed hold, but that’s definitely a AKG microphone from the 50-60’s era. I had one similar back in the 70’s… it was very directional, so maybe that explains the way he’s got it.
