Sometimes I look through old yearbooks and wonder, “What in all that is holy?”
My best guess here is that these fellas are wearing Groucho Marx glasses. Except that there aren’t any glasses at all. And Groucho was neither blond nor ginger. In fact, Hirschfeld drew Groucho with facial hair as black as night.
So I’m terribly vexed.

Maybe the glasses are of the invisible variety? And maybe they are trying to portray Groucho as he would have been, were he a blond or a ginger?

Let’s see: WWII had just ended, and Groucho was Jewish, so maybe these guys picked the masks up overseas, where the Nazis had Anglified the Groucho glasses, so that they could wear them but still be all about white power.
