  1. It’s called a pica pole, and dear editor is holding what may be the longest one I’ve ever seen, Kerbey. The round gizmo lying next to it is called a photo wheel. They used to be tools of my trade when I was an editor. I look at her and think: Stop the presses!

  2. My editor-husband confirms what Mark said about the tools of the trade. We still have a photo wheel/proportional scale. I was a yearbook editor in the 1960s and had to enforce the deadlines. Not fun.
