I actually had no idea there were such efficient copier machines back in 1958. When I was a student in the 1980s, we were still making copies using banda machines (spirit duplicators). Maybe Scotland was very behind the times with technology.
You bamboozled me. I thought this was a Fax machine and I knew they did not exist until the the mid-60s except, I think, in military applications. But it was a copy machine! Still, I had no idea a thermal printer existed in 1958.

I just googled and they were apparently called Rexographs or Ditto machines in America.
