Was he? Cool. I don’t think I even heard of 4-H till I was grown. Not sure about my husband but I know he was up at dawn to feed animals LOL. And I know what his mom would do to that rooster’s neck!
That is one big chicken. When I was a little kid one of my grandpa’s roosters attacked me. That sucker was vicious. Also delicious with masher potatoes and gravy.
I love the stunned look on the young man’s face on the right side of the picture. And the look of the woman peering over the prize winners shoulder, “Priceless”.
4-H was big in our area, but mostly for cows and horses. We moved into town before we could join, so missed the opportunity to show our animals, which were actually birds: geese and ducks. The geese made the best guard dogs you ever saw, but boy did I hate cleaning out their pond. Eww.

All the geese I’ve encountered are crochety mean things but I have a friend who swears they are loyal and kind.

Geese bond with the hands that feed them. We became part of their flock. And they are grouchy with outsiders.
