They have their hats even if they didn’t have shoes. In the South hats were essential, shoes not so much. I went to school in Hampton Va. It was a long time ago but it wasn’t in 1899. Great pic.
That’s quite impressive that such a photo even exists. It was a big deal, and expensive. to have a photo taken in those days and i doubt that many blacks of the time would have the means to get it done. Well found Kerbey.
