At one time in our history it wasn’t uncommon for families to visit the graves of loved ones on Memorial Day to lay wreaths and to even have picnics. I think that is healthier than trying to ignore our mortality.
There are a lot of small cemeteries around here with worn headstones. These people lived in the 19th century. I’m not even sure one could identify who is buried there with all the spotty court documentation around. They and their stories are lost with time.
Nothing like a cemetery to put things into perspective.

Makes you wonder if you should just get cremated. I don’t think I could do that.
