Is that a sandwich for 15 cents?? And you just know that the cheese sauce did not come from a can. The dour looking lady in the later picture needs to eat one. It might make her smile. I know a bacon and tomato sammich with hot cheese sauce would make me smile. How did the chuck wagon come by that name?
In the fall of 68 when I started IU I lived in a dorm and that dorm had a snack bar operated by an independent owner and staffed by students. You could get a cheese sandwich for 15 cents or a ham and cheese sandwich for 35 cents and both came with lettuce, tomato and mayo. They were really good sandwiches.

I guess it sounded informal enough for students. I can’t imagine paying a quarter for a sandwich and getting change back!

The AJF has threatened me with physical punishment if we are ever in the grocery store and I do my patented “Paging Mr. Roast. Mr. Chuck Roast.”
