Let me be the first to say I am so grateful that the earth does not look like an overflowing oyster shell, spilling like Niagara Falls into the nothingness. How odd it would be to have clouds below us.

I’ve been a member of the Norwegian “The Earth Is Flat Society” since I was about 17 🙂 and that would make it about 40 years 😉

What do you do at your meetings? Cling tightly to one another?

We discuss theories that proves that the earth is flat. For instance: is the north pole in the center and the south pole a rim around the edge preventing the sea from pouring out over the edge 😉 We discuss other equally interesting stuff to; why are vikings nearly always drawn with horns on their helmets when any idiot knows they didn’t have any or should you apply mustard or ketchup first on your hot dog (most Norwegians use both). The discussions can get quite lively at times 😉

How do we know they didn’t have horns? Were there no horny animals where the vikings were? I guess if I can lay my maps flat on the ground, the world could lay flat, too. Except those images from space show a sphere. It’s probably just an optical illusion and we are flat.

The vikings didn’t have horns on their helmets because that would would make them dangerous in battle. A sword coming down at full force from above would be guided against the head by the horn. Besides most vikings wore leather helmets, not metal ones and they would be hard to fasten horns to. In all the viking age digs in Scandinavia only one metal helmet has been found and it probably belonged to a king or a very wealthy local dignity.
Those globes you see in photos from space could just as easily have been photoshopped 😉

It looks like an old Classics Illustrated, or Highlights, or whatever they called those handouts they gave us in elementary school that made broad statements with illustrations about obvious facts. Nice, Kerbey.
