Yesterday I was given a stack of Houston newspapers from the week of JFK’s assassination. This November will mark the 50th anniversary of his passing, and I imagine some homage will be paid in the media. I found these brittle browning pages interesting, as they unraveled the course of history.
The page above was from the November 22, 1963 issue of The Houston Chronicle, when all was still well in Camelot. As far as they knew.
Hours later, another photo from the same scene is shown adjacent to a headline declaring “Secret Service Man Reports JFK Dead.”
The country knew that JFK and Texas Governor John Connally had both been shot, but JFK had not been officially pronounced dead.
But by November 23rd, the truth was out.
An article explains how doctors attempted to save the president’s life.
The suspect had been taken into custody.
And then the suspect himself was slain.
Finally, the president was laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery.
And Little John John bid his father farewell.
I Don't Get It 
Interesting glimpse of the past. We have a few of those iconic images in the mainstream today, but not all of these. We also have the knowledge of what happened to the rest of them after those publications. Bobby was assassinated. John Jr. wasn’t the cautious sort. Jackie decided to hook up with Ari Onassis for reasons not entirely clear to me.

I’m in Dallas right now on business, and I was just at the Sixth Floor Museum the other day. It’s surreal to stand in the building, looking down just a few windows down from where they suspect Oswald shot him…to stand on the grassy knoll…to stand in the spot where the famous Zapruder film was shot… I knew I was standing where history had taken place, but it also raised so many new questions for me. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, and I wasn’t around during his Presidency, but there is so much that I want to know about the events of that day. Thank you for sharing all those photos!

Oh, my, that IS surreal. I’ve never been there. Creepy. It was odd for me, reading what was then fresh news about the three bullet holes, but the doctors not knowing if it was from more than one bullet. With Oswald’s murder, we’ll never have all the answers, will we? Thanks for stopping by!

Wow. How well I remember. I was 14. We all went into the Central Junior High School auditorium to watch a tiny black-and-white TV. We were in shock. One classmate worried that Jackie might be dead. The next few days of watching the news coverage and funeral were intensely sad. Like 911, the whole nation was bound together in disbelief and mourning.
